Sodium Nitrate

Sodium nitrate is a chemical compound, this salt is also known as Chile saltpeter or Peru saltpeter to distinguish it from ordinary saltpeter, potassium nitrate.  Sodium nitrate is a white solid which is very soluble in water.

It is used in the production of fertilizers, pyrotechnics, glass and pottery enamels, food preservatives (esp. meats), and solid rocket propellant.
