Unitree R1

Unitree R1: Ultra-Affordable Humanoid Robot

Unitree R1 represents a breakthrough in affordable humanoid robotics, targeting individual developers, universities, hobbyists, and early consumer adopters. Standing 1.21 meters tall and weighing 25 kg, the R1 is an extremely versatile robot thanks to its 26 functional joints.

The R1 is marketed as “born for sport,” demonstrating remarkable agility with cartwheels, handstands, downhill sprints, and quick recovery from falls—moves normally reserved for far more expensive hardware. The robot can respond to voice commands and hold basic spoken conversations using integrated AI-powered speech recognition, and process visual inputs via its built-in cameras.

The R1 is powered by a lithium battery with an eight-core CPU and comes with a remote control. The standard version doesn’t include dexterous hands, making it more suitable for basic demonstrations, STEM education, and research rather than manipulation tasks. Unlike more advanced humanoids, the R1 is remote-controlled, though autonomy is achievable through secondary development.

  • Dexterous Hand (Multiple Model Options)
  • Compute Module – NVIDIA Jetson Orin
