Unitree R1 EDU

Unitree R1 EDU: Advanced Humanoid Platform for Research and Development

The Unitree R1 EDU is designed for users who want full control, deeper development capabilities, and AI-powered functionality. It adds two degrees of freedom to the head for pan and tilt capabilities, bringing the total to 26 degrees of freedom compared to the standard model’s 24. The R1 EDU variant expands the platform’s capabilities with up to 40 degrees of freedom when equipped with optional dexterous hands.

The EDU version includes the NVIDIA Jetson Orin module for advanced AI processing with 40 to 100 TOPS, supporting tasks like machine learning, real-time data analysis, and autonomous navigation. It also includes access to secondary development tools such as a software development kit (SDK) and allows for integration of optional dexterous hands for manipulation tasks. The educational version supports ROS 2 for custom programming and robotics research.

The EDU model is ideal for AI researchers, roboticists, and university labs, supporting the full development lifecycle from simulation to field testing. Researchers can test locomotion models, perception algorithms, or human-robot interaction protocols in a real, physical system, whether building SLAM algorithms, visual navigation, or whole-body motion planning. Equipped with sensors such as a stereo vision camera, 4-microphone array, and speaker, the R1 excels in environmental interaction and data collection.
